Matthew Carter

Matthew Carter was trained in the traditional crafts of typefounding; in the forty years since then he has designed and made type in metal, film and electrons. Before starting Carter & Cone Type with Cherie Cone in 1991, he had worked for Linotype and for Bitstream. He is a Royal Designer for Industry and a recipient of the Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design, the Type Directors Club Medal and the AIGA Medal — none of which impresses his colleagues at Font Bureau, with whom he has taught and collaborated on a number of joint projects.
