Antique Condensed

1 Style

From 1850 to 1870, advertising exploded in America; the typographic rage became ever narrower display types. By 1875, most wood type makers and some foundries offered X, XX, and XXX Condensed Gothics, Moderns, Clarendons & Antiques. Such compression fixes stroke weight, spacing & counters, limiting design to detail & horizontals. In this type, Jim Parkinson refines the XX Condensed with 20th century grace notes; FB 1995

Among other uses, Antique Condensed is recommended for Newspaper, Magazine, Book and Corporate use.
