New Release

We are delighted to unveil Cyrus Highsmith’s latest design in time for end-of-year celebrations, in a simultaneous release for the desktop and web.

Highsmith is known for his all-around workhorse families, but sometimes he lets loose the reins and raises a show pony. Serge is just that: a frisky, acrobatic face that dashes off decorative blurbs, signs, and headlines with a lively, angular zest. The family has three weights, from Regular to Black, but all are equally light on their feet.

Serge recalls the rich lettering tradition of France (think Roger Excoffon’s Mistral) but combines it with a truly contemporary flavor. Some might not even call Serge a script but rather an informal sans serif. Unconnected and angular, with straight terminals, it is less calligraphic and closer to sign painting and shop-front lettering.

With the FB Extended Latin character set, Serge is fluent in all major languages and dialects written with the Latin alphabet. And if you want to add some extra flair, the optional set of swashes comes in handy.

Bonjour, Serge!

3 Styles: Regular, Medium, and Black.

Serge is provided as OpenType fonts with swash alternates and extended language support.

Serge is also available for online use with @font-face through the Webtype hosted font service.

For all things Highsmith, be sure to keep tabs on Cyrus’s tumblr blog where he regularly posts an eclectic array of drawings, sketches, doodles, and prints. There you’ll get a glimpse into his highly imaginative visual world. You might even run across a sneak preview or two of font ideas in development. Monsters and Critters and Letters, oh my!
