New Release

Quiosco

Previously part of our Readability Series, Quiosco is now part of our Retail library and available for licensing and download.

With Quiosco, Cyrus Highsmith continues an examination of themes and possibilities which he first explored in Prensa, inspired by the work of W. A. Dwiggins — specifically a dynamic tension between inner and outer contours. However, the crackling, electrical energy of Prensa here gives way to a more fluid, mercurial muscularity in Quiosco.

While initially conceived for newspaper text, Quiosco has also found gainful employment in a variety of magazines over the years — Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, Outside, and The Hollywood Reporter, to name-drop just a few.

The new Quiosco premium fonts now include the FB Extended Latin character set, which covers all major languages and dialects written with the Latin alphabet, plus a host of professional OpenType layout features including small caps, both lining and oldstyle figures (plus tabular forms of each), and fractions, superiors, and inferiors.

6 Styles: Regular, Italic, Semibold, Semibold Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic.

Quiosco is provided as premium OpenType fonts with a full set of professional OT layout features and extended language support.

Quiosco was originally part of Font Bureau’s Readability Series, with four different grades for a range of press environments. These original grades are also available at retail pricing for those situations where fine control is required. If you require a specific grade or all grades, please call or e-mail us with your inquiry.

NEWS & NOTEWORTHY

Morisawa Judges

Last month, both Matthew Carter and Cyrus Highsmith served as part of the jury in the Latin section of the Morisawa Type Design Competition 2012. This periodic Japanese competition — less well-known in the West, but no less respected — has served as a springboard for many international designers. Carter and Highsmith were joined by fellow type designers Akira Kobayashi (Linotype) and Sara Soskolne (H&FJ).

Webfontday 2012

More recently, our esteemed founder David Berlow spoke at the one-day Webfontday gathering in Munich, organized by Typographische Gesellschaft München. (Actually, weather forced him to give his presentation over Skype.) Berlow shared some of the lessons learned during the development of Webtype, from designing & hinting the Reading Edge™ series to building a world-class webfont hosting service from the ground up.
