New Release

“My love for scripts is consuming,” says designer Richard Lipton. “There is a dramatic energy when scripts gain contrast and I love to explore that limit.”

And he does precisely that in Tangier, his latest essay in the Spencerian form. The Black weight really pushes the boundaries of contrast in a script, while remaining surprisingly open.

The family is outfitted in four weights, from an exquisitely lacy Light to the hearty, ebullient Black — quite a range for a script family. The OpenType features include stylistic alternates and a selection of different ascender & descender variations.

Disciplined enough for a gala black-tie invitation, zesty enough to jump off the shelf on food packaging, Tangier is an evocative script that offers a broad palette of expressive possibilities.

4 Styles: Light, Medium, Bold, and Black.

Available as OpenType fonts with swash and stylistic alternates.

Such a Creative Character

Coincidentally, Richard Lipton is also the subject of MyFonts’ April Creative Characters interview. In his typically insightful fashion, writer Jan Middendorp explores an array of topics with Lipton about his diverse career. Lipton talks of his early experiences painting signs and lettering book jackets, his transition to digital design and an early stint with Bitstream, the many inspirations and styles that he’s explored in his multitude of typefaces, and of course his work now with The Font Bureau.

“What’s Worth Watching”

. . . that’s TV Guide magazine’s tagline, and for those of us who like to keep tabs on publication redesigns, what’s worth watching recently has been TV Guide itself. The weekly entertainment guide unveiled a sharp, user-friendly new design a few weeks ago employing some stylish FB fonts — Quiosco, Boomer Sans, and Boomer Serif. We’ve posted images in our online Gallery, and a link to some others from Robert Newman Design, who spearheaded the project.
