Entertainment WeeklyGeraldine Hessler’s 2006 redesign for Entertainment Weekly marked the magazine’s first significant typographic update in more than a decade, after a long and successful run with Bureau Grotesque in the leading role. In contrast to the exuberant personality of the previous face, Hessler wanted to cast a type with a no-nonsense, “industrial” tone. When nothing pre-existing on the market quite matched her vision, she commissioned Cyrus Highsmith to draw Scout (originally dubbed EW Sans) in multiple weights and widths for use throughout the new design.
