The design of Sophia, a titling face, was suggested by hybrid alphabets from sixth-century Constantinople — a Byzantine blend of cosmopolitan influences: Roman classical capitals, early uncials, and Greek letterforms. Designed by Matthew Carter, it includes several alternative character shapes.
