Early romans appear archaic, following Carolingian minuscule with added “calligraphic” caps. In 1496, Venetians Aldus Manutius & Francesco Griffo used Imperial Roman stonecut capitals as models for the type of Cardinal Bembo’s De Aetna. In 1532, the face was adopted at the French court as prototype for Claude Garamond, shaping all that followed. Tobias Frere-Jones updated this 1st contemporary typeface for Worth magazine text; FB 1995

Among other uses, Pietro is recommended for Newspaper, Magazine, Book and Corporate use.
