In 1496, Venetians Aldus Manutius & Francesco Griffo used Imperial Roman stonecut capitals as models for the type of Cardinal Bembo’s De Aetna. In 1532, the face was adopted at the French court as prototype for Claude Garamond, shaping all that followed.
