Circa 1816 William Caslon IV printed W CASLON JNR LETTERFOUNDER, the earliest showing of a sans serif type. Matrices survive at Stephenson Blake for 26 caps plus Æ & OE. James Mosley argues that the type was cut for historical revival inscriptions, returning to Periclean letterforms. Miko McGinty digitized the font and Cyrus Highsmith & Christian Schwartz completed it for Red Herring; FB 1998–2001
