July 22nd – 25th, San Francisco— Font Bureau founder Roger Black led off the annual gathering hosted by Society of Typographic Aficionados, retelling his days in San Francisco with Jim Parkinson working on Rolling Stone, and where they went from there. The conference hosted several presentations from Font Bureau designers. Jim Parkinson later gave a tag team review of his work with Dave Ferry. Senior designer Cyrus Highsmith illustrated how he reworked the Rhode Island School of Design Typography curriculum with his “Do you ever dream of type?” lecture. Christian Schwartz and Dyana Weissman appeared on the Young Guns II panel. John Downer reviewed “Little Lettering Snafus,” Richard Lipton discussed his history of creating digital scripts. All the while, Kent Lew MC’d the event and provided general good will.
