New Fonts: Antenna and Novia

January 4, 2007. Boston.

Happy New Year from Font Bureau, Inc. To ring in 2007, we are proud to present two new families by Cyrus Highsmith:

ANTENNA - a Sans Serif in 28 styles

The calm and deliberation of Antenna offers further development to the excitement and mobility that we have come to expect from the hand of Cyrus Highsmith. Beyond the tension of his normal line, Highsmith places a new emphasis on the repeat and variation of counter shapes with the spaces between characters. Antenna’s rhythms project business-like subtleties through seven weights in four widths, with matching italics; FB 2007

NOVIA - a formal script in 2 weights

The English copperplate script came back into its own with the advent of photocomposition, then digital techniques. Gone are limitations on kerning and joining strokes imposed by the typefounders’ mold. In Novia Cyrus Highsmith has made the most of this freedom, returning to the delicate life of original manuscript forms. A rich set of alternative characters are automatically reached through OpenType support. Novia and Novia Light make up a delicate series with a vibrant life. Like all formal scripts, it is intended for use at display sizes. The Light is most effective at two hundred point and up. Novia was commissioned to grace the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings; FB 2007.

Novia is Font Bureau’s first Retail family exclusively available in OpenType format.
