January 2, 2000 Boston — The Font Bureau, Inc., an independent digital type foundry now celebrating its eleventh year, introduces its twenty-fourth retail font issue. This issue contains two new typeface families, Dispatch™ and Spira™ and the expansion of the previously issued Interstate™, FB Californian™, and Miller™. All are high quality and fully compatible PostScript® Type One fonts for Macintosh™ and Windows™.
Cyrus Highsmith’s Dispatch™ is a four style geometric slab-serif with the feel of industrial strength for both text and display. English designer Andy Stockley captures the vivacity of fifteenth century calligraphy, with Spira™, a masterful revival of the Venetian original. Font Bureau also introduces a substantial addition to our most popular typeface, Interstate™. Tobias Frere-Jones, with assistance from Cyrus Highsmith, has added eight complimentary italics and challenges extremes with Hairline and Ultra Black. In a joint venture with Matthew Carter, five new weights of Miller™ fill out his popular magazine and newspaper “Scotch” and David Berlow responds to requests for text sizes, bolder weights and a display cutting of our favorite corporate typeface, FB Californian™.
